A mutation is simply an unexpected change in the pattern of a DNA strand. There are four different types of DNA mutation, as follows;
pOINT MUTATION

The replacement or substitution of a letter in a strand of DNA. This mutation can leave an organism with a disease; an example being Sickle Cell Anemia.
Insertion

The insertion of base pairs in a string of DNA.
FRAMESHIFT

The deletion of one letter in a string of DNA, shifting the entire string down one place. This seems like a mutation that would not have major consequences, but the entire coding no longer exists. (Pictured on the left)
DELETION

A mutation where a single or pair of letters are lost from a DNA string.
